Daniel Fitzpatrick

Growing up in New Orleans, Danny Fitzpatrick was blessed with a rich Catholic culture and a devout Catholic family. Nonetheless, from a young age he felt a disconnect between the beauty and joy of the Mass he experienced every Sunday and the anxiety he also seemed to experience that day. While studying philosophy at the University of Dallas, he noticed a link between a decline in Lord’s Day observance and the sin of sloth. Several years of reflection on that link led to the publication of Restoring the Lord’s Day: How Reclaiming Sunday Can Revive Our Human Nature (Sophia Institute Press, 2024).

Since the book’s release, Danny has had the opportunity to visit parishes, schools, and universities around the country to offer talks and retreats inviting people to rediscover the joy of Sunday. As St. John Paul the Great recalled in his letter Dies Domini, the true Christian is the one who lives always in Sunday. The joy of the Resurrection is the constant gift of the Father to his children. Danny hopes to encounter that joy anew each day.

Danny is also the editor of Joie de Vivre: A Journal of Art, Culture, and Letters for South Louisiana. He is the author of the novels First Make Mad and Only the Lover Sings, the poetry collections Yonder in the Sun and Quarter Blend Polly, and a translation of Dante’s Divine Comedy. His poems and essays have appeared in Dappled Things, New Verse Review, Ekstasis, and New Oxford Review, among other publications. He holds an M.Phil. in Creative Writing from Trinity College Dublin and an M.A. in Philosophy from Holy Apostles College, and he is completing an M.A. in John Paul II Studies from the University of St. Thomas in Houston Danny teaches English at Jesuit High School in New Orleans, where he lives with his wife and four children.
